Ride Ratings 

Beginner: rolling short climbs, frequent regroups, fire roads
Intermediate: few rolling hills, longer climbs, some steep hills, regroups, singletrack, fire roads
Advanced: steep hills, very long climbs, few regroups, technical singletrack, fire road.

Start Time:
Check ride start times. The start times will vary this month moving to 8:45 AM for most rides later in the month. As always check each ride for proper start time.

Open Days: Days when no rides are scheduled may be used to schedule according to weather and trail conditions. These rides will be posted on the message board and to the TSD mailing list.

Safety: Riders must wear helmets meeting CPSC or Snell safety standards.

Winter Weather:
Be prepared for cold wet weather. Rides are cancelled if it is raining. Rain in the week before a ride may also cause a cancellation due to muddy riding conditions.

PLEASE NOTE: A "USFS Adventure Pass" is required to park in the Cleveland National Forest. This would apply to: Pioneer Mail, Penny Pines and the Meadows Trailheads, Noble Canyon Trailhead in Pine Valley, Black Mountain and Mesa Grande Rides, and the Corral Canyon OHV Area Lake Morena ride.

SATURDAY RIDES

JANUARY 3, 8:45 AM, SOAPSTONE AND MIDDLE PEAK
Rating: Intermediate, 22 miles
Trailhead: Sweetwater Bridge parking area, Rancho Cuyamaca State Park
The standard loop over Soapstone and Middle Peak now includes the newly opened West Side Trail single track.

JANUARY 10, 8:45 AM, NO  RIDE SCHEDULED

JANUARY 17, **9:30 AM**, SPLIT ROCK
Rating: Intermediate, 25 miles, desert dirt road, sandy sections
Trailhead: The intersection of S 2 and Pinyon Mountain Road inside the Anza Borrego State Park.
This ride will follow Pinyon Mountain Road through the “Squeeze” and down the Pinyon Drop Off to Split Rock.  We will turn around at Split Rock and return by the same route.

JANUARY 24, 8:45 AM, NO RIDE SCHEDULED

JANUARY 31, **9:30 AM**, COYOTE CANYON
Rating: Advanced, 25 miles, gradual climb and decent on possibly sandy desert roads.
Trailhead:  Meet at Christmas Circle in Borrego Springs at 9:30 AM before driving to the start.
This ride is an out and back in the bottom part of Coyote Canyon. Bring food and water for the entire ride and be prepared for varied conditions.

SUNDAY  RIDES
  
JANUARY 4, NO RIDE SCHEDULED

JANUARY 11, 8:45 AM, LAKE HODGES
Rating: Beginner 16 miles, single track, fire road
Trailhead: Coast to Crest Sunset Drive Trailhead, exit I-15 at Via Rancho Parkway, head east, turn right on Sunset Drive, go to end of cul-de-sac.
This is an out and back ride on the North Side Trail.

JANUARY 18, 8:45 AM, NO RIDE SCHEDULED

JANUARY 25, 8:45 AM, SYCAMORE CANYON
Rating: Intermediate, 15 miles single track, fire road
Trailhead: Sycamore Canyon Trailhead at the end of Sycamore Canyon Road in Poway. Note that the exit ramp from Scripps Poway Parkway to Sycamore Canyon that is shown on some maps is NOT open to traffic.
We will be riding in Sycamore Canyon and exploring the surrounding area.

FEBRUARY 1, 8:45 AM, DALEY RANCH
Rating: Intermediate, 16 miles, fire road, single track, steep climbs
Trailhead: Daley Ranch Parking Lot. Take El Norte Parkway exit off I-15 in Escondido to La Honda Drive (look for the Lake Dixon signs).
