Although all your ride leaders and ~30% of NCCC members have taken the Smart Cycling class, some of you may not yet have heard of it, or figured you know all there is to know. Former ride leader and NCCC VP Robert Abraham said after taking the class, "If you think you don't need to take this class, then you NEED to take this class!".

The City of Solana Beach has awarded BikeWalkSolana a Community Grant where one of the events is a Smart Cycling class held right in Solana Beach. The classroom session will be held Tuesday May 17 at La Colonia Community Center and the road session will run Saturday May 21 locally from my house near Solana Vista school. This is only the second time it is offered in Solana Beach, so it is convenient for Solana Beach and nearby folks; we will be focusing on local Solana Beach roads and infrastructure during the road session - including the Del Mar racetrack roundabout and the Cardiff 101 cycle track. Through the grant funding Jersey Mike's will be providing sandwiches for both sessions and Saturday graduates will take a home a Cygolite Hotshots taillight to enhance visibility day and night. The Tuesday Class is required in order to take the Saturday road session.

To learn more about these classes and to register for the special May 17 & 21 sessions, go to https://sdbikecoalition.org/smart-cycling. They are appropriate for all levels of cycling experience, whether you're new or returning to cycling or even if you bike all the time and have won the Race Across America multiple times as one of our instructors can attest.

The class is currently 1/3 full, so there is room to take full advantage of our grant from the City of Solana Beach. Hope to see some of you there!
